Quick answer

What does this tool do?

Decision Wheel makes a random choice from options that are already acceptable. A positive number after a vertical bar sets relative weight, and the page displays each option’s resulting percentage before the spin.

About this tool

Why use this tool?

Decision Wheel helps resolve low-stakes choices after you have already removed unsafe, unavailable or unacceptable options. Enter one choice per line or start with a preset for food, movies, places, activities or turn order. Add a positive number after a vertical bar to assign a relative weight, such as “Cook at home|2”; the page displays each resulting percentage before the spin so unequal chances are visible. Web Crypto selects the outcome first, and the wheel then animates to reveal that choice. You can keep or remove the result, reduce motion, save the list locally or create a temporary share link when collaboration is useful. A random wheel cannot evaluate consequences, preferences or professional evidence, so use it only for reversible everyday decisions and never as the sole basis for medical, legal, financial, employment or safety decisions.

How to use it

  1. Choose a template or enter your options.
  2. Add optional numeric weights after a vertical bar.
  3. Spin the wheel.
  4. Keep or remove the selected option and share only if you choose.

Common use cases

  • Choose dinner
  • Plan a movie night
  • Decide who goes first

Practical examples

  1. Give a nearby restaurant twice the chance of a farther option.
  2. Choose one approved activity for a team break.
  3. Resolve who goes first among willing participants.

How it works

Random values come from window.crypto.getRandomValues(). Lists are shuffled with an unbiased Fisher–Yates process. For a wheel, the result is chosen before the animation; for weighted entries, each positive weight defines its share of the total probability.

Decision Wheel FAQ

Is my list uploaded?

No. Entries are processed in your browser unless you explicitly create a share link.

What kind of randomness is used?

The browser Web Crypto API supplies unbiased random values. Wheel animation only reveals a result chosen in advance.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The controls, results and wheel adapt to current mobile browsers and keyboard navigation.

Can I reuse my settings?

Yes. Device storage can remember recent settings unless you turn off local list saving.

Is this suitable for a certified lottery?

No. It is a general-purpose classroom, work, event and decision tool, not a regulated drawing system.
